    Re: rust reformer/converter on frame...

Is your front crossmember dented on the underside?? Now is the time to pull it out if it is. Terry

If your front crossmember is dented on the underside, now is the time to pull it out while you have everything apart. Terry

        pull

Good idea Terry. This car has only one small indent. Any tips on pulling it out?

          Re: pull

Jim, I make and sell the tool that is specificly made to pull the dent that is commonly found in the underside of the front crossmember of C2 and C3 cars. If your dent is not that bad, you might just want to leave it. It is up to you. But if you want to buy a tool and pull it out, just let me know. At this point, it would be easy to use. Tool costs $113.95 plus $8.10 priority mail shipping, insurance is $2.00 extra. If you send me your email address, I can send you pictures of the tool. I wish I could sell them for less but I have too much into making each individual unit. The catalog people that I sell them to mark them up considerably more and sell them to professional restorers and individuals. Let me know if you are interested, Terry

            Re: Well done..

            Thanks.

The front of the cross member where the water pump leaked coolant and the frame directly below the master cyclinder were the sections with most rust for obvious reasons.

I first used a wire wheel (actually went through several) on a drill as well as on an angled air grinder just on the rusted areas. It took me quite a while to do since I just did it a little at a time over several weekends.

Then used some paint stripper to get off all the remaining paint. So I had to rise that off with water which in return caused a bit of surface rust. Went over it once more with a wire brush and then sprayed it down well with brake cleaner and then mineral spirits and scotch brite.

There were still cracks and crevases where I couldnt get so I decided to use the rust encapsualtor.

It actually turned out better than I thought it would.
