I am trying to remove the ignition lock cylinder from the ignition switch on my 1963 dashboard. The dashboard has been removed from the car. I have read other posts about needing to have the key in LOCK and then depressing a paperclip through the hole on the side of the cylinder. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to get the key into LOCK with dashboard out of the car -- the key will only turn to OFF. I am sure the key works fine and it's probably something simple to make this work -- please help.

Re: Ignition Cylinder Removal for 1963
Gregory,
You should be able to insert the key into the lock cylinder and turn it hard to the left as far as it will go while pressing down on the key.(Assuming you are righthanded, use your right hand for more strength). You must then hold the key in that position while inserting the paperclip into the hole with your left hand and pressing down very hard to allow the whole cylinder to move a little to the left...and out. The left and right hand usage should be easier with the cluster out but you will get a feel for which hand works best and where.....good luck.- Top
