    Disucssion Board TOO active...

This place is getting too busy. I checked the board yesterday when I left the office about 5pm. Come in this morining at 6:30 am. Fired up the computer and went right over to the board, 97 new messages!!!!! I don't have time to read all of those messages. So end up scanning them for the ones of interest and skiping the others. No telling what I am missing.

Who knows, but at the rate of growth of this board, very soon I may be looking at 970 each morning. Maybe we should look at some type of message grouping to help us sort through them in a timely manner.

    Any thoughts on this issue?

    Hi Tom:

At this point I am so pleased to have the old board back up and running that I have become a practitioner of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school.

      Tom-----

Personally, I like it just the way it is. It's this exact format that I wanted to get back to, and we're back to it.

I like it too. The only way to make it better would be if the users put the year or C generation in their title line to help the rest of us screen our reading....

        Here's my two cents.

          Joe, I agree...

I do agree with you. I do like this format and am glad it is back. It is just that there is getting to be so much traffic that it won't be long before the number of messages and responses is unmanagable in a single list format like this. I was away for an hour and a half just now and when I got back on the board there there 28 new messages, WOW! Just for my own knowledge and benefit I try to read all of the messages if at all possable.

So if I get fired for spending too much time on line, I guess I can blame it all on this board

Guys, Iguess I'm not aware of how these online disc. deals work, but, how can these chat rooms have 850 people, all online at the same time, posting over and over again all day and night, and our board has approx. 20-30 people post per hour and have to worry about overloading?????

Busy is good ! That's the way I like it. The old format is great - it's easy to read and operate. The big problem that I have is that work gets in the way . Lately it's taking up entirely too much of my day and not leaving enough time for Corvettes. I think I need to delegate more.

More is better than less in when you are member driven, and I can't think of a better way to generate new members than by offering the depth and quality of information, not to mention the enthuziasim this board generates.

Being new to the group all I can say is that you folks have started the snow ball rolling (In a great way that is).

I hope the server has about four billion free Gigs.

I hope John W. can keep his sanitiy through it all.

I agree with Joe and all the rest, This is where it's at. Why silence people who can have some input for a guy or gal having problems with their car or just wanting to converse about their corvette. I like some of the stories I read and have learned a lot, thanks to guys like Joe and others. Freedom of speech goes a long way. grr#33570

                    Freedom of Speech????

I must have missed something in the discussions here. Never said anything about limiting posts or limiting what could be posted. Just that I was having problems keeping up due to the number of posts. And that it will probley only get worse. But the more the better. Just will have to find a new job so I can stay on here longer (or maybe my current boss will make arrangements so I can be online all day if I don't cut back)

                      Re: fits like a glove . . .

This board format has become such an integral part of our DB that I, for one, did not look at the other temporary board but maybe twice per week. Now that the REAL db is back, I'll check every day again.

BTW, I was going to say that this familiar format fits like an old pair of jeans but it occurred to me that all of my older jeans have shrunk to the point that I can no longer wear them. The length is fine, they just get too tight. Worse yet, the manufacturers keep making them smaller (must be a cost reduction action) so I have to keep buying the next larger size (waist only)when I replace the ones that shrunk. I don't understand why they only shrink in the waist or why the cost reductions were not taken in the inseam. Any thoughts?

No, no, no Mike, they are not shrinking, it is a memory thing. As you get older it seems that you keep forgeting what you waist size was. That is all. You are still wearing the same size, just the momery is going.

I think segmenting is a good idea. Perhaps by year(C1, C2, etc,), or type of question. Maybe along the lines of the judging manuals as well. Additionally, adding other sections, ie information wanted, for sale, etc could be accomplished. IMHO, Mike

I'm afraid I can't agree with segmenting. So many of these questions are "cross-overs" and general enough to be helpful for others. For example, a lot of early C3 engine info is also relevant for me, a C2 owner. Further, there are simply too many interesting discussions going on here to separate them. Bill

It would definately be a compromise..If the volume gets high enough, you'll have to either scroll thru all topics, which means lots of time spent on line. The flip side is segmenting topics in some manner, which means you'll undoubtably miss some topics of interest. Personally, my interests are a bit narrower, so I'd prefer only to see topics relating to C3's and view others if time permits. I may miss a few this way, but I know if it takes me 30 mins or longer to scroll thru all message nightly, I will definately miss more than a few! IMHO, Mike
