Hi GANG, I was wondering what tire manufactor still makes a red wall tire. I heard something about BF GOODRICH, but is there anybody else? The size I need is 225-70-15R.
If I can't get them in red walls, is there a felt marker or some other device to turn a white wall into what would look as close as a red wall tire?
If you actually want to drive them and have a comfortable ride, buy them instead from Diamondback tire. I have had some on my 71 for 6 years, and love them. They're real radials, not bad bias ply repros, and are a far better option for a non-NCRS judged car. Or, keep them on a separate set of rims like I do and swap for judging.
Diamond Back Classic Tires is an online tire shop that creates custom tires for classic cars. Diamond Back creates white wall tires, redline tires, blueline tires, goldline tires and other vintage tires for pre-1976 vehicles including Corvettes, Mustangs, prewar cars, postwar cars, European cars and more.
I have Coker red line radials on my HIPO Mustang and they were a great improvement over the bias ply tires. I have heard numerous people say they like the Diamonds better than Coker - I haven't tried Diamonds so I can say.
I was looking at an old picture of a 68' or 69' white vette with the red line tires, and I thought "WOW" that looks great. So it's just a cosmetic change, that I thought would look sharp.
Allright! They do look great, I agree. In any case, since you want the "look" then I totally agree that Diamondback is the way to go!. They can slap a redline on a great handling, modern radial tire.
If you wanted judging points (originality), then I would have recommended Kelsey Goodyear. IMHO, the best reproduction tires available (at a somewhat higher price than Goodrich, Uniroyals, or Firestone repops).
