    '54 Fuel Pump

A previous owner had installed the wrong fuel pump on my '54 Corvette VIN E54S002504. It is a 4666 and has no glass bowl. According to Noland Adams' book and Goat Hill Classics the correct fuel pump is 4132. Noland's book clearly shows a picture of the fuel pump installed with the glass bowl "up". Paul, the owner of Goat Hill Classics insists that the glass bowl goes "down". I tend to believe the picture. Paul doesn't allow anyone to go to his shop to talk to him so it is difficult to deal with him and if he is giving me bogus information, I am hesitant to deal with him. His shop is only 10 miles from my house. Has anyone had any experience with Goat Hill Classics in Long Beach, CA? Is there another supplier that remanufactures the correct fuel pumps? Any info on alternate shops and verification of correct numbers and installation would be greatly appreciated.

Glass bowl goes up, just like the 9797. Goat Hill? Well......

    I won't say anything. Chuck

Upon..further review..and reading Nolands details on the 53/54 pump..the one I pictured if I understand Noland correctly..would be the 1953 and early 1954 pump..since the inlet/outlet is angled 30 degrees on the pump pictured.

It makes sense that the angle would have been adjusted to parallel with the engine in 54 to accomadate the fuel filter that moved next to the punp for 54.

Either way the glass bowl was up for 54!

        Hope this helps.

You can make a 4132 configuration out of the more common 9797.

Just unscrew the top (where the glass bowl is). Rotate the top till the outlet is parallel to the engine block.

Mark the area on the lower half, drill and tap new holes, and screw it together. VOILA, a 4132 configuration.

There are some pumps out there that have partially cast recesses to do this very thing. Chuck

Thanks Chuck, Joe and Roy for your responses. Chuck, if I read between the lines about Goat hill correctly, my sentiments were the same. Do any of you folks have a suggestion as to where I can get a correct 4132 pump other than Goat Hill? I don't have a 9797. The one I have is a 4666. Thanks.

                  Peter,

I e-mailed you per your request nearly a week ago and did not receive a reply. I have subsequently found a pump. Thanks for your interest.
