    '55 trans lever

I'm trying to get length of the lever on a cast iron Powerglide that connects to the carb linkage. I found a drawing with a number I believe to be 3713799, but writing is so small, even with a magnifying glass I can't make it out.

I can estimate the length based on mechanical drawings and measuring parts I already have, but if anybody knows the length and placement of the hole where the kickdown rod conncts, it would help me in fabricating this linkage. This is one part I can't seem to find...

    Thanks,

    Mike

Get Ready!! It's not easy, at least for me. You have to really fine tune the kickdown rod on a fresh p/g to get it to "kickdown" I am try a different kick down rod now that I have the correct carb. Any thoughts?

      Re: '55 trans lever

I'm still in the body off, bare frame mode. Right now I'm putting parts on the motor which is fresh in the frame with trans. I have made a new lever out of steel stock. It works, but I think it may be a bit short... I have static adjusted it to work, but until I drive it, I won't really know how, or if, it is working. Keep me posted on your progress.

I bought my entire kickdown from Classicchevy.com, it is the same set up as drawn in Noland Adams book on page 69. It seems to fit fine, I think my fabricated lever is too short for a smooth action.

You need to read what I just posted the 55 56 57 Automatic CAR! CAR! Is the same identical rod as your 55 Corvette, go look under Chevy on e-bay, it would be hard to make and cheap to buy. You Reno guys spend your money on the slots then try to make parts.

          Well, it's

a weird 2-piece L shaped arm, with a short upward stub angled toward the rear, then a long downward arm toward the rear, at about a 45° angle. The c/c length is 3 1/4". (I went out to the garage and measured it).

            Re: Well, it's

Dave, I found the thread and your reply. Thanks Dave! I estimated mine to be 3 1/8, so I.m a bit shy there. Also, I think I drilled the hole that connects the lever and lower rod a bit too high on the lever which would effect the "action" when it is shifted. Making another will be easier than the first, I just need to make it an 1/8th longer and move the hole closer to the end of the lever.

Thanks so much for taking the trouble to go aout and measure. I appreciate your effort. Thanks again!

            Mike
