    c1 windshield post repair

I need to repair the tabs on the side frames that attach to the lower front frame of my '61. An article by Art Senn in the repair encyclopedias says to use .060 inch thick steel. Is this still an accepted and proper repair? Any thing better?

That doesn't sound nearly thick enough for a repair. Sounds more like a reinforcement to help support tabs that haven't broken yet.

Thanks for the info. A thought on the repair. It seems a piece of 16 gauge (1/16 inch) steel slipped over the studs, with super glue or epoxy at the broken joint, and held onto the tab by the two screws would hold the tab together horizontally. It appears the tab rests on the lower frame which should keep the tab in place vertically. On the other hand I think the tabs break on their own due to some vertical stress and their brittleness. I think my windshield is original but the tabs are broken. The repair plate should keep the frames together horizontally and would not break vertically due to its flexability and even if the tab did break at the joint again the plate would keep the frames together. The end shim gaskets should absorb the difference in thickness due to the repair plate. Any thoughts on this reasoning?
