    ebay fuel injection choke cover

Want to report that there is an ebay item being sold as NOS and it's a repro I sold in my catalog for an eon. '63 to 65 choke cover listed as NOS. I told the seller when he listed the last one for sale that it was our repro and he wrote back with "thank you".
Well now it is relisted with buy it now for $275.00 as NOS. SO you fuel car guys beware. Item #110056080386.
It's a shame that this happens. The repro part is an excellent part but not NOS. How to tell a repro from an original is that typically you will see a "slash" or indented line near the edge. The "slash" will be at the teeth area and it's an indicator or how to set the choke as far as rich and lean. Notice in the photo that the part does not have this. Also the color of the aluminum on the repro is not the same as originals. Last of all notice the brass insert in the center of the thread. The repro has a counter bore in the center of the insert whereas the original does not. The spring is also not the same configuration as original. John

Nice heads up. Better yet, thanks for the explanation of the difference in repro to original. Some of us "green" guys have a hard time telling what is what. Nice job. Thanks !

      The odd thing is...

The seller could still get a good price for the cover if he just told the truth. The reproductions aren't cheap. And, they look more like the assembly line part than some real NOS covers that were yellow dichromate plated.

This seller just sold a pair of '65 big block exhaust manifolds for just over 2 grand. The picture was not close enough to determine if they were genuine. Magnifying the picture one of them looked questionable.

Jerry, I also told the seller that typical NOS 63-65 choke covers are dichromate. Assembly line units though did not contain dichromate covers but the replacments did. I held a repro choke cover up to the PC screen next to the really clear ebay pic and I tell you the two covers were 100%identical. I also held up a NOS dichromate cover to make convince myself that I was indeed correct and not being mislead from a photo. There are a few minute engraving details between the repros and originals also. I am 1000% sure the part advertised is a typical repro. Thanks for your support.
Using that typical word again. I typically don't get involved in crap like this but it's time to step up to the plate as too much of this is going on and our fellow Corvette owners are being mislead, etc. John

Good Alert! Thanks for info on natural al vs yel al for NOS - still more unique things about our cars.
I believe that this type of alert is one key reason for the site.

At those prices my car is worth more in parts! Reminds me of the song "One Piece at a Time" - the one about an assembly worker taking one part out in lunch box every day. ha ha

I also emailed the seller asking if he had the original box. He had a box but of course the part # was missing. This was early in the auction and before I got educated about real NOS and repo's. Thanks for the help. Jerry
