    C2 65 Vette 350hp

Recently acquired a 1965 350hp convertible and have a question (first of many I think) as I start to restore the car.

    1. Tachometer - NCRS manual states "early" 350 redline is 5500 and "most" 350 redline is 6000. The car is a March 18th build date (113681 serial #). Does this fall into the early or most category?

    Thanks!

Your VIN of 13681 is past half way throught the production build. You are definitely past the early and into the "most" category.

      Would somebody pass the salt?

I may need to eat some crow here...

Just informed by Jack H that the L79 was a mid production release with deliveries starting in the Jan/Feb timeframe. A March build may still fall into the "most" category, but don't take my answer as gospel on this one.

      Mmm.Hmm..whats for desert?

        Don't touch that NaCl

My first car was #04835 (mid Dec) F1212HT (from P-o-P imprint). As far as I've ever heard, the L79 was available from the "git go" (to use a "Jack H"-ism), and the only issues are when the redline went from 5500 to 6200, and perhaps the oil pressure and the oil pan size.

        # 04835 had a 6200 redline and 80 lb oil. I can't remember on the pan.

              Re: Don't touch that NaCl

Thanks Wayne and Bill. I knew the big block was a late comer but I admit I shot from the hip with my first responce on the 350hp question. I'm not around my books to verify so I threw the disclaimer out as a precaution.

This is one of the things I like about this board. We have very knowledgable people who monitor posts so questionable info doesn't go unchecked very often.

I'll just throw the rest of this crow out to the dogs when I get home..

                  Mea Culpa!

BAD BOY, Jack! You should never trust memory after a bottle of wine...

L79 was INDEED a full year 1965 engine offering and Noland's survey data documents the first report of an L79 engine on S/N 159!!!
