    68 Assy Manual help please

I'm trying to track down this condensor on my early 69
and my 69 assy manual doesn't have it. This pic is of a 68 cluster and I think that it is the same condensor so I hope that the 68 assy manual will show it.

If someone could check the U69 option in their 68 assy manual and let me know if this condensor is shown I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks and I promise that this is the last time I'll ask this one.

    Greg

There is a capacitor shown on the back of the instrument cluster in the 68 AIM.

It appears to connect to the top terminal of the battery meter.

The AIM also shows the capacitor mounted on the back of the lower row of gauges and not on the top as shown in your picture.

Okay, I had a good look at the back of my cluster and there seems to be an imprint of the condensors mounting tab on the lower clock housing screw tab which is about the only place that it could be mounted in this area anyways. That said though it would be a stretch for it to reach the ammeter BUT the curl in the condensors wire does "match up" real close to the clock terminal.

Could it be for the clock?

Yes, it should be mounted to the lower screw for the clock. It shows a long stretch for the lead in the AIM but I don't have a real good copy of it so I won't put money on where it goes.

              Greg,

I found an old 68 AIM, so I copied the A3 sheet for you. The graphics are not much better than what you already know but I though you would like to see them.

Have a look at the above link if the picture does not come through.

Thanks for the pic Tony. I think it confirms what John says about it being fastened with the existing clock mounting screw. I think it might be for the clock but I don't have a wiring diagram for 68 to confirm that....actually I don't have one for my 69 either!

If you think about it, the clock is a momentary short every few minutes and you'd think that it would cause a radio noise that could be supressed with a capacitor.
