    Aluminum intake nipple thread sealant.

My 65 L79 aluminum intake is ready for me to add the nipples, heater and bypass. What type should I use here? I have Permatex thread sealant(teflon) in a small plastic bottle with applicator and also Permatex black silicone in a tube gasket sealant. The threads on this old intake are not 100%, but definately worthy of many good years of service. In the archives, I read where someone suggested using a silicone sealant on the bypass hose to prevent any leaks. Any opinions or experiences? Thanks! Dick Gutman

GM pipe thread sealant or similar. Permatex product just as good, but price is not a ripoff.

        Re: ........With Teflon

Thanks Joe, for the response. This Permatex with teflon thread sealant looks very similar to the stuff in a tube under many other different brands. White pipe thread sealant. Seals and further acts as an anti-seize. A plumber told me that is why they use this stuff only for the anti-seize aspect. Dick Gutman

Having aluminum headed engines and intakes on in the car motors in my garage I use Permatex anti-sieze on the spark plugs, pipe nipples, and on the knock sensors that go in the block.

            Dick,
            I use the teflon paste.

That tube looks like the many brands of Teflon thread sealant I have seen. Plumbers love it. I like to think the Permatex brand stuff in a tiny bottle is better: BUT? It costs more so it must be better? Thanks Dick Gutman
