Bought a radiator cap that was represented as correct for a `57 Corvette. When I tried to install it, I found it was too tall for the correct rad. Can someone with a parts book tell me which year, if any, Corvette it fits? It is an AC type RC-3, 7# pressure, Part number on box 850797. Thanks

Re: C1 Radiator Cap
Jim - According to the back of an old RC-3 box, there are no Corvette applications, but it does have a number of interesting applications such as Allis Chalmers, Buick (40-46), Cadillac (39-40), Hudson, Packard, and Studebaker. Also interesting is the side of the box has a caution statement which reads "CAUTION: Use cap of correct length and pressure. See length chart below." The RC-3 is 1-1/4" tall (length) and fits a radiator filler neck 1" deep (length). The other option on the length chart is a 1" tall cap that fits a 3/4" deep radiator filler neck that from your experience is the cap length that your 57 Corvette needs.
I know the straight axel Corvettes had bunch of different radiator cap top configurations but from a general functional replacement aspect, it looks like if you need a 7 lb cap which the RC-3 is, you would want to be looking for a RC-1 cap that is 7 lbs. Another option might be a RC-2 cap which is a 4 lb cap and shows on the back of the box the 1954 -60 Corvette as one of the applications.
Hope the info helps. Pete- Top
