    C3 alignment Question

    Hi,

After body off resto I had my car aligned yesterday. Seemingly the front suspension had in between 1-1.5° of negative camber. I would have removed shims (on the front and rear bolt of the upper A-am) but on the front bolt the shaft was already completly mounted against the front spring tower.

At first I thought it had something to do with the gymkhana front springs that I mounted but the car seems to be at normal ride height.

What can I do ? Mount a press in between the towers and slightly press them apart ?

    Thanks for any input.

    Yves

    Re: C3 alignment Question

    Yves-----

This is a not uncommon (excuse the double negative) problem with 63-82 Corvettes as well as many other 58-64 Chevrolets. The only solution that I know of for it is "rolling" the frame (which is ROUGHLY as you described but not something that is recommended for a do-it-your-selfer) or installing special offset upper a-arm shafts. Such shafts are available from Moog.

      Yves -

I don't know if such things are available over there, but manufacturers such as Moog, TRW, etc. have "offset" upper control arm shafts made specifically to address that issue. The photo below shows the standard shaft on the left and an "offset" shaft on the right. It might be a good idea to check the area around the spring towers on both sides for cracks or separation.

        Shaft Part Numbers

        Yves-----

Part numbers for the offset shaft kits are as follows. I expect that these are all the exact same part differently branded. So, if you choose to go this route, select the one that easiest to get and/or least expensive for you.

        Moog #K6104

        Spiecer # 5951008

        AC-Delco #45J0008

        GM #88913881

Each of the above is a kit to do 1 side of the car. So, you need to obtain 2 kits for the complete job. Bushings, retainers and bolts are included with the kits.
