63 trip odometer cable install

I need to install a new trip odometer cable in my 63. Is this something that can be done with the cluser in place ?? Looks like quite a maze to work through to access it. Anyone done this ? I hate to pull the cluster if i don't need to. Thanks.

Tom,

It can be done with the cluster in place. You will need to install the new cable to the back or the cluster first, letting it stick out horizontally towards the fron tof the car until you get in snugged up to the cluster. Then carefully route it done through the hole in the steering clumn support to the trip cable support bracket. It is not easy by any means, I recommend removing the driver's seat as you will need to lay on your back in the driver's side foot well to get a good view of what you are doing.
