    Seatbelt Sity seatbelts.

Just talked to Charlie at Seatbelt Sity about having a set of belts done for my 63. Seemed like a straight up guy with very fair pricing. Anyone have any comments on his products / work ? Thanks.

Had the seat belts for my '81 done by Ssnake Oyl (or Ssnake oil) in Texas. They look great, but one wanring that I have heard is universal across all seatbelt restorers: the webbing is considerably thinner than the material that was used in the early 80's (not sure about '63...) I don't like it. It's real "floppy" and just doesn't have that old solid feel. Very nice work though. I wonder if it would take a judging hit or if NCRS let's this one skate by, since the belts are safety equipment. IMHO, if it were me, I'd check the archives, as I've seen some pretty good success stories of guys renewing the color of the webbing, unless of course your webbing is pretty frayed, in which case you have a tougher choice.

My situation is the worst. I don't have any belts. The belts in my car are incorrect, so I need to purchase a set. The 63 webbing is unique to 63 and I've heard it is not reproduced. The restoration guys are using original stock webbing, so that should be OK. Charlie told me he has never had a set of his come back with a complaint. Like I said, he sounded very competent and was fairly priced.

Charlie restored my late 1966 belts. Offered me several different options, did great work in a timely fashion, for a reasonable amount.

Restored Seat belts will lose lots of points to some judges. Hits I have taken stiching not the same number per inch as original. Thread poly-- not cotton as original. Stiching pattern not correct. Webing too thin and color not correct. Replacement tags have a fount not like original. Wording on tags not the same as original. Thats six items -6 to some judges. Restored seat belts can loose lots of points. This is not a descripton of any one vendors product. Lyle
