Hi guys, being a dumb blond I was wondering if some one could answer a dumb question for me? At a Regional or Chapter Judging meet, is the general public able to buy admission tickets to get in? I'm not a NCRS member yet, but would like to go to a meet and see how the judging is done. Thank you...

Re: Judging meet question??
Hi Heather - In this hobby, there are no dumb questions. I don't know of any Chapter meets that charge any admission for non-participants. Once in a while, depending on location/facilities, a Regional meet may have a admission fee to get in, but not to observe tha judging activity. We welcome anyone to observe our activities and learn from the experiences/observations.
I could recommend that you purchase a Judging Guide and Judging Reference Manual from our NCRS on-line store (available to non-members, but discounted to members). These will give you a good heads-up on what to expect in real time, and understand why Judges make the calls that we do. Of course, NCRS membership has much more benfits than just getting discounted books,
Any of us hope to see you at a meet soon. Cheers, Dick Carolinas Chapter- Top

Re: Judging meet question??
Only at a very few places that meets are held is admission ever charged. Sometimes if the event is inside, only members registered for that meet are to be allowed inside. But most events are ouside and just about everyone can view the cars and judging. Come on out and enjoy the cars.- Top

Re: Judging meet question??
Heather, Nice to have another gal on the board, welcome! Yes, the public is welcome, at usually a small charge, at the door. If you look me up, I'll sneak you in FREE! Bob

Re: Judging meet question??
Heather, If memory serves, starting this year, you can attend a chapter meet one time for no charge just to "get acquainted". You do not need to be a member. This gives you a chance to see what it is all about. THe cost to join the national ($30) and a chapter membership (varies but usually pretty low) is worth the cost. I can speak for everyone when I say you would be very welcome to join.....hope you do

Re: Judging meet question??
Heather --- Hate to deflate the balloon, but my understanding of NCRS events is that attendance requires registration, and this is available only to NCRS members. If you read the registration forms, they clearly state that the event nametag must be worn at all times, including outdoor events. Mind you, this is very hard to police, and chances are that no one would request that you leave; in fact the most senior NCRS members are usually the ones that do not display their event tag (standard exemption under the Important Persons Act).
I would hope that someone from the National Executive could reiterate the official postion with respect to non-registered guests/observers.- Top

Re: Judging meet question??
Hi Heather, As others have mentioned, most of the events are free. NCRS is all about education and learning and I've never seen anyone with an inquisitive attitude turned away. In fact, you'll probably go home with your head swimming in circles.
I purchased my '70 corvette in Dec '99. I decided to get it judged *before* I really got into the restoration. Well I received a 2nd Flight award this past March. I had never even visited a NCRS event before. I joined NCRS a year ago because I agreed with the philosophy of the organization and thought it would be a good way to educate myself during my search for a vette. Now I've joined a great local chapter and made some wonderful friends both locally and through this board.
BTW, I'm in the Annapolis Maryland area. Where are you located? It's nice to see another corvette lady on the board. ~Juliet2019 Sebring Orange 8-Spd Coupe (daily driver & autocross) 6k mi.

Re: Judging meet question??
Wayne,I always thought it was like you said about registration. Even though I have been a member quite awhile(#861), I would see these reg. fees for a week and knowing I can only go for a day or two, I chose not to go. I was at the Wapakoneta O. meet and the Goshen Ind. meet but I forgot how it was set up.- Top

Re: Judging meet question??
All, we recently finished our chapter meet and under a new guideline, the folks that were non-members were allowed to attend and display a car ONE TIME. This was just to get acquainted. I'm pretty sure this was correct or we would not have done it. I think it is also limited to a chapter meet.

Re: meet registration question?? *TL*
Heather,
I know you didn't mention this, but just to clarify: If you want your car judged you will have to register and to do that you have to be a member of the national NCRS. One does not have to be a member of the chapter putting on the meet.
To attend a meet and look at the cars: Technically one should register for the meet and to do that one has to be a member of the national organization. However, some locations do not lend themselves to easy policing of the grounds. Meets are sometimes held in parks or at dealers where the owner of the property does not want to, or can not, restrict who walks in. On the other hand some events are held indoors where entry is tightly controlled and only meet registrants, with meet credentials displayed, are allowed to enter. There is a whole range of possibilities in between these extremes. Some chapters recoup some of the expenses of the meet by charging admission to the public.
To attend the meet and learn about judging: Some events hold judging schools that might help your learning curve. You must register for the meet to attend those events. If you want to "hang" with the judges - this is called being an Observer Judge (being an OJ). To do that you must register for the event. Gaining the knowledge that the judges have and use is a much more intimate process than the casual "look at the cars" the general public is interested in.
The group that hosts the event is in a position of spending money to put it on. They have some limited means of recouping that money. The registration fees are one of those means. The judges pay the same registration fee as everyone else who attends the meet and they spend all day (sometimes 2 days) on their feet, knees or backs depending which part of car they are judging. It is hard work and they pay for the privilege. Don't expect to get knowledge for free. There is always some kind of expense involved in the learning process. Pay for the books and for the learning experiences - you will find it is worth the cost.

Re: Judging meet question??
Hi Juliet, I'm located near Chicago and there is a meet going on in July near here. I was just asking the question if I could go watch the judging and get in to the meet without being a NCRS member. I'm going to join, but being new to this, I wanted to see how things are done first. Boy, there was a bunch of replies. Thanks, Heather- Top
