I recently ordered some of the rivets that hold the oil splash pan on the underside of the intake manifold for my 71 BB 454, cast iron manifold. When I started to remove the splash pan I noticed that the pins that I took out are more of a split rivet and the new ones I purchased GM#10229247 are not split but have fine splines on them. Are these correct to use for my application and any special installation instructions?
Thanks in advance
Sheldon
I would never put rivets back in the holes. Nobody will ever see them, and I feel a lot better knowing that there are screws in there with red loctite on them!
I agree, if you want to make it bullet proof. Put some machine screws in there. Tap the holes and screw them in. But, I am comfortable with the way GM did it. Take care, Terry
