I am working on a 58. I noticed that the judging manual calls for a "C" channel support within the wheel well for the top front fender moulding. I am assuming the "C" refers to the profile of the support. Corvette Central offers up the reinforcements, but the profile on these appears to be a "Z". Can anyone expand on this for me? Are the ones offerred by Corvette Central correct? If not, does anyone know who carries these?
Thanks,
Jim
The correct profile is a Z shape. I don't think that anyone is currently making the correct ones from steel. Vette Products (I think), used to make them, but dicontinued them. Semersheims makes them out of black fiberglass, and you really have to look at them to tell. I use them on my cars to prevent cracking of the fender tops. This is a great addition to any 58-62 car! They really stiffen up the fender tops. Finding a set of originals is getting real hard to do.
Thank you for the response. I was thinking that the ones on the C.C. online catalog were probably correct...if they can be made in a "Z" profile, it shouldn't be much of a problem to make them with a "C" profile.
