I have recent purchased a 69 BB convertible. The car is the original cortez silver (exterior color) and the factory option louvers are a flat black. My question is would this have been they way a silver car would have come from the factory? I must admit the black louvers look pretty good on a silver car, but I'm thinking that someone just got creative along the way since I have only seen silver (or are they chrome?) louvers; but admittedly never seen them on a silver car. Any insight into the original finish of the factory option 69 louvers installed on a cortez silver car is appreciated. Also, if they were not originally black, what color should they be? Silver, chrome, etc... Thanks!

Re: 69 Louver Color

While I'm not a big fan of the TJ-2 louver trim option, I will tell you that the louvers were never supplied in either PRODUCTION or SERVICE in black. Although the finish on later SERVICE examples of the TJ-2 trim differs a bit from those used in PRODUCTION (and older SERVICE pieces) all had a "silver" finish. In your case, black must have been "added" by someone later. Probably, it was someone that was not satisfied with the contrast that the louver trim exhibited with respect to a cortez silver exterior color. After all, there is a striking difference between the contrast of the trim and the exterior color on, say, a tuxedo black car and a cortez silver car. So, someone was trying to "re-create" that level of contrast on a silver car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 Louver Color
I had a new 69 BB 400hp Cortez silver convertible with the louvers that were kinda satin silver. Took the silver paint off with some thinner and left them chrome so you see them. Your car doesn't happen to have a blue interior and black top does it? Probably not. GL- Top
