    Radiator advice for 68 L71

    Hello - I did a search in the archives but couldn't find the answer to my question (probably lousy search job but nevertheless);

    I am doing a (insofar possible) NCRS style body off on my 1968 L71 and want to replace the radiator for a DeWitts. What advice would you give me - go for the aluminium

    or take the copper and brass product?

    Your advice and views are highly appreciated (as always),
    Erik

    Erik -

    Depends on your objective for the car - the copper/brass will get more judging points, but the aluminum has 25% more cooling capacity. Depends whether you want to watch the scenery or the temperature gauge.

      Thanks John - I will check the judging manual how many points I would burn with the Aluminium one.

        Erick your post made me check Dewitts site, they make aluminum radiators for 68 BB but did not see an aluminum radiator for a 68 SB, they do have them for the 69-72 SB though.

          My 34K mile 68 L71 has an original copper/brass radiator and has no cooling problems at all.

              Same here Rich - cooling isn't that big of an issue as well. Maybe the brass version then......

                My L89 uses the stock radiator too

                It has a stroker 489 engine (original block and heads) and with all the correct fan, seals and the chin spoiler, it holds a steady 190 - 210 with the 195 degree thermostat in Florida - and no crazy high volume water pump or cooling additives! The factory designed these cars to be driven.

                The interior also holds a steady 190 degrees but that's another story (JUST KIDDING!!!).

                  The 68 small block could be the BB radiator, if the car had either AC or Auto.

                    Tom------

                    I'll go even further and say that the 68 small block WOULD BE the BB radiator if the car had either C-60 or M-40.
