I have a 1970 Coupe. What is the correct positioning of the rectangular exhaust tips? How much of a gap should there be between the top of the exhaust tip and the exhaust bezel? My original brochure for the 70 Vette shows the exhaust tip almost touching the bezel...is this correct?

The GM spec calls for about 1" clearance between the top of the exhaust tip and the bezel.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

The best and easiest place to find information like this is in the AIM. Unfortunately, the 1970-72 AIM's seem to be "missing" this information. Fortunately, the 1973 AIM is not missing the information, and I fully expect that the 1973 spec is the same or very close to the 1970-72 spec.In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment
