    Terry -

If the alternator failed in the plant after the car came off the line, Repair would have replaced it with the correct alternator right out of the container on the engine dress line; all they had in the plant were Corvette alternators released for use during that model year.

Is there a chance an older alternator could have been hanging around in repair?? I think it is possible an alternator lingered and was used as an acceptable replacement. Propably anything is possible but as the odds go?? I would probably pull the alternater and save it and then put a more acceptable one on the car and keep track of the observation for postarity. Sorry for beating this in the ground. Take care, Terry

Nah...Sorry, Terry, John (As if he needed my help. ) is right.

I was thinking exactly the same thing before he posted. You have to get inside the mind of a giant corporation...There's a BOOK of policy for doing EVERYTHING; doesn't matter if it's General Motors, General Electric, or Exxon Mobil.

Trust me, leaving last year's alternator laying around "just in case we need it" IS NOT in the policy book. Factory repair alternators would have come right off the assembly line supply IMO...it's The Company Way.

You can work out all the senarios that may or may not have happened, but the accepted norm on the judging field is 6 months. Anything outside that window and it is up to the owner to provide sufficient documentation for that item. Granted we learn something new about these cars every time we judge them, but the 6 month rule is more than lienient on most items.

Sounds like you have my original alternator that I've been looking for. I have an Oct 3 build date on my 1969 L68 coupe with TI. If you do decide to replace it I would be interested in purchasing yours
