What size wheel and tire can be used on a 65 without making any modification? I would be open to use of an offset rim.

I would hazard

a guess that a positive offset wheel would get you into the wheel opening lip real quick.

Midyears are extremely intolerant to wheel and tire size/width variations, as they were designed in 1961 around 6.70-15 tires on 5.5" rims. Anything larger than 205/75 or 215/70 on a 6" rim with +.060" offset invites fiberglass damage.

68 Corvette Rallye wheels with 205 75 15 work well on a midyear so a 7" Mag wheel with similar offset should work.
