    '64-5 FI Distrib 1111064 w/T.I. experts needed

I think I've got this figured out but need your confirmation. Here's a couple of K66 stationary pole pieces that I picked up at a Vermont swap meet in the early '90s. When I checked my GM catalogs they were listing Gr 2.372 # 1964276 as for fuel injected distributors with transistor ignition only. They show as no longer available in my 1980 GM price book.

In VETTE magazine Nov 1991 issue, they say the difference with the OTHER stationary pole # 1960779 (all non-F.I. applications) is that the sleeve pressed into the breaker plate (points ignition) or the K66 pole plate is shorter for F.I. (0.325") than for non-L84 distrib's (0.405"). So that means if I want to use one for a carbureted distrib, I'd have to transfer the sleeve, right ?

And what about that brass washer ? Same VETTE article says NO brass under the stationary pole piece for F.I. distrib's. And why is this washer Gr 2.385 @ 1961927, indicated for ALL K66 distrib's (no exclusion specified for F.I.) ? And (Joe L ?) why does this part only show up in the Corvette-only parts catalogs (P&A30B's) and not in the general Chevrolet P & A 30 series ?

My August 15, 1969 Delcom -Remy service parts catalog shows "pole Piece and WT. Base" #1964349 used on "1111060-4" and "Pole Piece
and Plate Assem" 1964276 used on just "1111064" . No explanation given. Hope this helps.

the ones i have converted, non FI dist, needed the brass washer to raise the stationary pole piece up to align with the rotating pole piece. maybe the FI dist without a vacuum advance did not need the brass washer.i think the brass washer is there to allow the vacuum advance to work without binding because of the magnetic field.as long as the pole pieces line up you are go to go. Wayne-----

The GM #1964276 is included in the Chevrolet and Corvette P&A Catalogs. However, it's only included through the editions printed prior to October 1, 1969. That's because as of that date, the Corvette P&A Catalog was removed from the earlier combined catalog and published as a seperate, Corvette-only P&A Catalog. Since the GM #1964276 stationary pole piece only had Corvette applicability, it disappeared from the Chevrolet P&A Catalog after 10/1/69.

The GM #1964276 was discontinued in February, 1980 and replaced for SERVICE by the GM #1960779. So, apparently, the 1960779 can be used to replace a distributor originally fitted with the 1964276. Whether the converse is true, I do not know. There might not be enough parts included with the 1964276 to enable it to be used as-supplied for a non-TI distributor.

The GM #1960779 was discontinued in July, 1991.

Thanks, found brass washer in Gr 2.379

Thanks for the discontinued dates on those 2 stationary T.I pole pieces. I figure (per the VETTE article) that the 1964276 is identical to the 1960779 EXCEPT for the shorter breaker place center sleeve on the Fuel Injection disr. 1111064, so you just transfer this part for use on the appropriate distr.

Also, I was not aware that, after the P&A30B Corvette series was issued, Corvette parts were thereafter eliminated from the Chevrolet-only P&A30.

I've solved the brass washer mystery. In my first post, I could not find it [1961927] prior to the Corvette-only P&A30B, first issued in Oct of 1969, where it was listed under Gr 2.385 as Washer (advance plate). This item was not under 2.385 in earlier P&A30's, but I finally located it under 2.379 Washer, (distr. thrust).

Now all I have to understand (was hoping I'd hear from a F.I./T.I. rebuilder) why the VETTE article says no brass washer is necessary in these 1111064 instances, and whether it ties into the sleeve height difference.

Also, thanks Clem; confirmed my thinking that the brass washer (non-magnetic) was used to kill the magnetic field effect between the pole piece and the cast iron of the distributor, so that the vacuum advance would work.
