    C1 door striker

Have seen many C1's using or buyers buying the wrong door strikers.

The ones on the left are NOS original that have the ( R/H & L/H markings ,rubber stoppers and lower floating locking section ) the plastic slider pin does not extent through the housing.

The ones on the right are second design replacements many people use or buy ( all looks the same but the plastic pin goes through the housing )

This is what you need to look for when buying original's ,there is a third design NOT having the floating bottom area and is solid .
The reason for the rubber stop and floating lower section was to aid in the shock of closing your door on the fiberglass. All three designs have the same part number so watch for this because looking in e-bay I see many people buying the wrong so called NOS part!

Thanks for this, Roy. Just another of your very useful bits about our C1's. It helps me confirm that I have the correct originals for my car.

Please don't ever think that "no response" means we aren't still looking and learning from you.

Great stuff. The strikers on my 59 are the real deal. But I did not know about the black rubber bumpers. My strikers have the screw but the black bumpers are long gone.

Thanks Roy. Your pics and explanations of what original parts look like are INVALUABLE to guys new to the hobby.

Thanks , People ask Where I get some of my pic. To show! The original one here I got on e-bay , Chevy guys know that their's don't use the rubber bumpers, Corvette guys (many) don't know they did so few people bid on them thinking they are odd, So I got them cheap!! BUT if you find "original" (Chevy ones that are the same as Corvette but for the rubber bumpers) you can drill the hole and add the rubber bumpers.

That is why I post things like this now and then for the NEWBE's old fart know this.

For reference, the rubber bumper used in the striker is the same one that was used (a pair of them) adjacent to the latch above the center glove box for the top compartment lid (P/N 4573915).

                        Roy/John,

Does the rubber bumper have a steel insert around the screw hole or not? My originals on the door strikers didn't have, but at least one vendor sells bumpers that do have, and in fact lists some w/o for the deck lid. Not really a big deal as you probably can't tell when they're mounted, but just curious. Thanks in advance for your response.
