Base model C3's bargain basement collector cars?

I can't help but notice that the base C3 Corvettes seem to be quite the bargain as far as the collector car market goes. I see them on Ebay for much less than almost any other "muscle car" and I have even noticed the rather affordable pricing of these cars on many of the Corvette specific forums.

What gives? I recall a time when these cars were some of the most expensive and desired cars of their day and now you can't buy a base first generation Camaro for what you would pay for a nice L46, L82 or L48 C3.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject? When do you think the values will catch up; if ever?

Yes Dave, I believe they will pick up soon. I've always been fond of the 68-72 chrome bumper cars regardless of engine size.

If funds ever become availible I'd like to pick one up myself and ride the wave.

It sure doesn't seem logical to me either. Second gen Z-28 camaro models have been coming on strong of recent, and some of these cars are getting prices that best the '70 to '72 LT-1's. Car for car I just don't see how the LT-1 'vettes can stay at similar prices to the Z-28 Camaros.

It may have to do with what baby-boomers owned when they were young. Nostalgia is influencing the market IMO.

Guys in that age group now have the cash for toys, and are trying to buy back their youth by competing for the available cars just like, or close to, the one they owned in high school. More of them could afford Camaros, or had a friend that owned one, than the ones that could afford Corvettes.

For me, I could never afford either car in high school, but now that I have spare cash, I bought the one I could only dream of having when I was seventeen or eighteen.

i switched from corvettes to camaros when

the Z-28 came out because mrs clem and i started our family then so we needed more seats. they were fun cars and i never did like the looks of the sharks. my 68 Z-28,highly modified, one of the few cars i would like to have back. 150 MPH top speed and i could even give corvettes a run for their money at the hill climbs and autocross.

I just came back from the Turkey Rod Run. I never saw so many Camaro's in my life. For sale and not for sale.Going for big buck's.The Yenko's were all over the place. There had to be more there than were ever produced, I don't know how many were built each year, but I have never seen so many. And yes I would say the bottom has dropped out on the C3'S, the one's I saw for sale were cheap in comparison!
