53 to 55 horn button and front emblem show the real first design original (which are old) having more BLACK in the flag ,then the GM reissue second design which has more white in the flag.
When these emblems were repro'ed after GM stopped offering them the repro guys copyedit (second design) so if you see or have the original first design and looking new you have a vary rare emblem indeed.
I have yet to see a "restored Corvette" with the first design emblems.

I have seen a few original emblems offered for sale in the last 6 months. Usually the plastic lens is in pretty sad shape. Is there anyway to remove the old plastic lens from the original emblem and install a new repro lens? This would give you a very nice looking emblem with the correct flags.

No it's all one unit, my emblems are a little crazed front and horn but original , other wise look good , I just don't like using repro's any place on my 55 , even my out side mirror chrome is a little poor I use original parts. That's just the way I'm. OK I do have wire wheels and keep my NOS hub caps on the wall ( at least I dont worry about them flying off)
