I don't know for sure, but I suspect it was simply a piece-cost penalty issue, plus a tooling cost issue at Harrison to tool up another (wider) stacked-plate aluminum radiator, when there were already hundreds of copper/brass cores and end tanks already in production that could be utilized for far less money.
The Harrison #3155316 aluminum radiator is probably the most expensive (and the most efficient) radiator ever put in a car; I'm surprised it stayed in production as the base radiator as long as it did.
