Does anyone know how long Louisiana, Texas and California keep vehicle registration records? Also, how does one contact these state's department of motor vehicles for information? As always, thanks in advance for your help. Rex NCRS #8089

Re: State vehicle records
about 1990, a maryland state trooper was able to trace my 67 back to 1968. the car was sold new in so calif(435 smog coupe) and made its way to pasadena texas in 1968 and it lived there till i bought it in about 1988. the trooper was unable to penetrate the calif dmv records for 1967. keep in mind that the info was obtained by a law enforcement office 15 years or so BEFORE the current privacy laws were enacted. i suspect its way more difficult to get such records nowadays, even with the help of a friendly officer of the law. good luck, mike- Top

Re: State vehicle records
Rex, you missed the boat for Louisiana. I have a 57 fuelie that was bought new in Baton Rouge LA and I contacted them back in 1997 about it. Well they had on microfiche the original MSO, the original dealer invoice, and copies of every title in LA. After the year 2000 because of privacy laws they no longer give anything out and they may have even destroyed them but you can try.- Top
