The original wire on my column was green. It was a little tired so I replaced it with an NOS unit I found on ebay. Also green wire. The repo that LIC sells has a brown wire. The shape is a little different by LIC says it will fit and function correctly. Of coarse the brown wire which is not correct would be exposed.
