    Re: 63 Master Cylinder Cap

Frank, We have a definite pattern going on here. It seems like so far the early 63's have the large font and the mid year ons have the small font. Seems is the key word. Thanks for your imput, John

      John,
I've been spending some time cleaning up several more originals and logging the results. I'll be emailing a list to you, and you can post it if you want to. My data only compares the lid style to the MC type and date, not the date of the car, so the information may be questioned. I did only pick masters that appeared to be unmolested, just as I had removed them from cars in yards.
Unfortunately, I have many more that have had their lids removed, so they cannot offer any data.

Verne, Thanks for sending me the info. Unfortunately I do not know how to post the pics and info. Maybe some one else can do it. I am sure that Harry Sadlock can do it. Thanks very much, John

          Re: 63 Master Cylinder Cap

From Verne, he asked me to post this.

If the correlation between screw-top lid styles is still of interest, I have
collected several more examples on hand and listed the results below. If I
encountered a MC where the lid condition did not match the overall
condition, I did not list results from it. The units I drew data from are
still in the same condition as they were when I pulled them from a vehicle
and I believe the data is solid. NONE of the original caps I found had the
abbreviated version of the logo. They all had the full logo. In this list,
I've also noted whether the casting number itself was small or large font
(perhaps indicating two separate foundries.) As I indicated earlier, the
biggest problem in deciphering dates is that there isn't any certainty
whether a Julian date is '62 or '63, since the only correlation is between
the lid style and the date of the master, and not the date of the car it
came from. As used on passenger cars, the '62 and '63 (except the 7/8")
          master cylinders are identical styles.

          225 S 38 S
          225 S 40 S
          225 S 61 S
          225 L 89-3 S
          225 L F33 S
          984 L L-31-1 S
          984 S 331 L
          984 S 11 L
          984 L A232 L
          984 S 86 L
          984 S 92 L
          984 S 87 L
          984 S 152 S
          984 S 165 S

          984 S 298 S
          984 L C32 S
          984 S 320 S
          984 L H161 S

Inconsistencies seem to arise with the large 984 castings with early dates
but small logos. Perhaps by grouping the data differently, more "decisions"
could be made. Please feel free to draw your own conclusions from this raw
          data.

          Enjoy!
