    C2:67 Anybody see this before?

I thought somebody was playing a joke on me, or I left a rag under the carb aircleaner, until I realized what the stuff was.

You've probably guessed it. It is underdash insulation from the driver's side.

Looked under the dash, and the insulation has been nearly cleaned off, bit by bit.

Scratching my head, I'm wondering how it got from under the dash into the engine compartment. Oh yes, the tach grommet is missing, and I can fit two skinny fingers through the hole. Looks like the insulation removal started at the hole and move outward.

Oh Rats!#!#, or Mices! (Must have been a small one) Looks like a grommet goes on tomorrow.

Wasn't there last weekend when I checked the oil, but the nights just started turning cold this week.

Was anybody seen this happen before.

Yes I've seen similar evidence before. I put a sheet of Bounce fabric softener on the floor board, have'nt had anymore problems.Sounds crazy but I think it works. Terry Robertson

Jerry...I would guess the jokesters are mice. Never heard that about BOUNCE before but learn some thing everyday. What generation vehicle is your Vette? (early SB valve covers and BB air cleaner??)....Regards Frank

        Frank,

That's a 67 base engine 327 with it's original aircleaner. The 67 base engine reverted back to the earlier stamped steel chevrolet valve covers.

Maybe that's why they call it a mouse engine

Gonna put the nest back and get some mouse traps.

Thx Jerry as you can tell I'm not up on '67s. And now as I recall my exes '67 SB had that same air cleaner which I always refered to as a BB which is wrong...Regards Frank

Jerry...just a thot, I use DECON rat bait and it comes in a pack of 6 or 8 boxes. Ijust put a couple unopened boxes here and there and these guys think their so smart to break into these boxes it just "KILLS" them. but just be sure water is available as that is the active ingredient.

I think I know what you mean.

                  mice are everywhere

every time we go to our place in the mountains and leave my silverado set for 2-3 days without moving it i lift the hood and i find where the field mice have taken insulation from the hood blanket and started to build nests on the engine. i had a friend call me one time and said his car would not run right and he thought he needed a carb rebuild. i went over to check it out and when i removed the top of the air cleaner the area between the outside of the filter and the air cleaner housing was full of dog food from the big bag he kept in his garage.

When I finaly got my 67 small block running after 10 years in storage by its original owner, I turned the defrost on to find that same looking nest come flying at me from the defrost duct... I was driving and almost #$(! in my pants!!!!

                      Hence the term, 'mouse motor'.
Rats live much larger than mice, that would be a mouse condo.
Would make an interesting study for a behaviorist to determine the best underhood nest locations. Anecdotal evidence shows that central location to be the most popular.

they also will build nest in the exhaust systems

because my FIL would leave his truck sit in a outside garage while they went to Fla. for the winter. he would come home and start the truck and baby mice and mice nests would blow out the tail pipe.

use traps, dead mice stink A LOT

Have you ever had a mouse die in one of your walls? It really stinks up the house. I would use traps or else you're going to be following your nose to find the rotting little critters.

Bounce works, been using it on boats in storage for years, moth balls also.

They will also build in your outdoor grill. I opened mine this spring and found a small nest. No problem, I summoned my rat terrier Otis, let him wait on the deck next to the grill while I rattled it. Here come 2 mice, the score was..

                              Otis 2
                              Rodents 0

The same thing happened a few weeks later with a rat. Same result. The little guy is an assassin. Anytime I go outside and near the grill he goes ape.
