    Knock offs

I have a 63 with knockoffs. Went to take wheel off and can not get knock offs to move. I removed center cap, removed pin, hit spinner in "off" direction will not budge. Socked overnight with liquid wrench, still will not move. Tried another wheel same problem. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to do something else?

Hit it harder or get a bigger hammer. Not trying to be a smart axx, but most people are afraid to hit them hard enough to put them on or take them off.

Wayne hit the nail, er, spinner on the head. Hit it like you live. If folks with this type wheel would hit the spinner until the hammer no longer resembled a hammer we wouldn't hear stories of spinners coming off. I have driven my '64 thousands of miles since '87 with Western knock offs (no pins) 87 and have never had a problem. Get tough with it!

      Cheers,
      Charlie

What kind of hammer are you using? If you are using a dead blow instead of lead, you'll really have to whack it hard, like the others said.

Leave the weight of the car on the tire when you hit the spinner. Otherwise the suspension will absorb much of the hammer blow.

A length of PVC pipe slipped over a spinner ear and cut long enough to leave a handle works very well when smacked with a short handle five pound steel sledge. The PVC and the steel hammer head won't absorb the blow like a lead hammer by itself hitting the spinner. The PVC is still soft enough it won't harm your chrome. You can also get a much better "feel" when the spinner is tight using the steel hammer and PVC pipe.
