    '70 Camaro date code help

    Hello All,

Sorry this is off subject, but there is such a wealth of information from the members here.

Would a 3970010 block, stamped V0121CTB (January 21st) be correct for a March 28th 1970 ship date (Build date 03E- 5th week of March) be dated OK.

The casting date is Dec. 11, 1969. Keeping in mind the Camaro didn't go on sale till some time in Feb. '70.

    Thanks for the help.
    Kurt

Re: '70 Camaro date code help

I am currently researching the restoration of my 1970, and I will pass on what I heard. An origainal car would probably be built within a month or so of the motor, but a 3 month window is acceptable (some say up to 6???).

I recently dissassembled a '64 Corvette that was a NOM car. The motor was cast on 21st and assembled on the 27th. Intake was the 18th, one head was 18th, the other 19th. (just to show a good example) Build date on the car hasn't been checked yet.

I have a question for you in return... Paint code 65A. I know 65 is Hugger Orange, but the A??? Vinyl top? Stripe color?

Hi Kurt, I hope this shed's some light on your "70".

      My 1974 Z/28 has this:

      ENGINE BLOCK: 3970010------L-82
      ENGINE CODE: VO417CMT------FLINT ENGINE-April 17-M40-NB2

When I took the engine apart, the dates on the parts were second week of March 1974 and the engine code date being April 17/74, and the final build date on the door sticker was May/74 and of the third week. So the engine stamp date to door date is about a month.

So as I look into my crystal ball you have a 1970 Z/28 4spd LT-1, must be nice, what colour and options? Ken.

Ken... your crystal ball works well. Citrus Green, RS with deluxe green/black cloth interior, P/S, P/B, console, tinted glass and factory 4:10

        thanks for the help.

My thinking is the date while "acceptable" is a little too far out.

        regards,
        Kurt

          Kurt-----

I would say that the date is well within the range of "normal". You'll note that I said well within the range of normal and NOT within an acceptable date range. An "acceptable date range" and "well within the range of normal" can be 2 different things. By well within the range of normal, I'm saying it's within the range that was COMMON. The "acceptable date range" includes dates which while uncommon, are seen in some original cars.
