Hello, I am a little unsure what speaker my 58' has in it and whether not it is a replacement. It has part number 7270428 stamped in ink on the transformer but the books say it should be 7270423. My question is whats the difference between the the two numbers since the only difference is the last digit?

I don't know what the exact situation is here. These real old radio system parts questions can be difficult. However, keep in mind that just because there is a number stamped on the part, that does not mean that's the part number for the finished assembly (as seen in the AIM or P&A Catalogs). There may have been some part or parts added to the GM #7270428 speaker assembly in order to make it the GM #7270423 finished part number applicable to a Corvette. Other or different parts may have been added to the 7270428 speaker assembly to make it into a different finished part number for use in some other application.
All of this is just speculation, but it does fit a pattern of which I am familiar. I strongly suspect that the speaker you have is original to the car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
