There's no firm date for change over and early/late parts were probably mixed on the assy line for a while. The JG text reads:

"The valve is a cylindrical-shaped canister (similar to a coffee can) with gold-iridite plating. Beginning in March, 1969 (about SN 18744), a different shaped canister, resembling two pie plates connected together, was used...."

FWIW - My '69 L71 was assembled about August 8, 1969 and still retains the coffee can shaped windshield wiper door activator as initial to the car.

I've never seen a 1969 with a known-original "dual pie pan" actuator with a build date as early as March, 1969. It may have occurred, of course, but I've never seen one.

I can say, for sure, that my original owner 1969 which was built mid-September, 1969 has the "coffee can" canister. It's true, of course, that there could have been "mixed use" of the 2 types prior to that time, but I really doubt it for a component like this.

I think tht you will find that the later dates, such as what Joe Lucia is quoting, is more realistic and what the judges would look for.

My 1969 with an August "birthdate" had the coffee can style acuator. The pie-plate was a service replacement by me, since I couldn't find an original in working condition...regards...joe

My late August 69 assembled car has the coffee can actuator.

Have a friend with a DECEMBER 69 assembly, a VERY late car. His has the pie pans. Chuck

Bizzoco notes in his book that 732685 has coffee can and 733001has pie pan.
