2nd picture - air cleaner stud on 68 qjet
Here is the second. It is a bit rough and not in excellent shape, but it has had an active life.
The orange 396 valve covers are not stock to the engine, just covering the valves while the originals are rechromed.

Re: 2nd picture - air cleaner stud on 68 qjet
I went and measured it. There is 1-1/2 inch sticking out. The carb is getting to the point that I'm leary of pulling the stud out.
The stud could well be the same as most open element air cleaners. The big issue with Corvettes is that they droop much further at the edge than other models because the hood has so much slope. Chevelles, Camaros, and such have mostly flat hoods so they didn't have to droop to get under them in front.
Don't go above 1-1/2 inches, though. There isn't much clearance and I've seen them hit when the wing nut didn't go all the way down.- Top

Your excelorator pump rod looks too bent and the choke rod is missing. Make sure that choke stays open and can't flop around. I am not sure if it would with plenty of air getting sucked down it. I saved the picture and I will compare them to mine. I think mine is the same looking. Thank you, terry- Top
