    53 - 54E Master Cylinder Revisited - Roy & Mike

A few weeks ago, I purchased an item described as a "Buick" master cylinder on ebay. The item appeared correct for 53-54E Corvettes. I received the master cylinder today, and everything looks right to my untrained eye (except for the fitting at the end).

    Relevant #'s:

Casting# - 5450233 (233 are enlarged on the inboard side)
Plug# - 5454350 and model # 320-H (JM says that some master cylinders had these #'s)
    Cap# - 5300880

I have posted pics at the web address below.

What do you guys think - is this the real deal? My 54 has the original master cylinder, and I was looking for a backup unit to put on. But this one looks just like my original.

    Thanks,

    Russ

Russ, it looks just like the 53-55 master cylinder. I don't think the casting number is right, but it appears to be the same other than the fitting and number. It looks like it would be a good back up part.

5454350 is listed in my 1950-1965 GM interchange manual as being used on 1954 and 1955 Buicks w/o Power Brakes.

They were used by salvage yards. They were published annually. Mine is a 1950-1965 published by Auto Interchange Systems, Las Vegas, NV, a division of Auto Business Forms, and copyrighted 1979. I didn't know any had been reproduced as Bill suggested, but I doubt they're available in print currently anywhere.
