    63 shp timing

    Installed my 63/340shp distributor and am off one tooth, i.e. vac can is against manifold for 10 BTC. Which way do I rotate the shaft for proper clearance CW or CWW? Thanks

    Jim -

    Clockwise, as viewed from the top. One tooth will move the housing 27 degrees - if that puts the vacuum can against the coil (assuming the wires are indexed correctly in the cap towers), pull the distributor and move the drive gear 180*; the "dimple" on the gear should be pointed in the same direction as the tip of the rotor (with an original GM camshaft).

        Dimple is aligned with the rotor tip. After rotating the dist. shaft one tooth CW the vac. can is now on the coil bracket. Should I still rotate the gear 180*?

            Do you know the mfg./part number of the camshaft. Is it an aftermarket design or an OE reproduction?
