    C2 Part numbers?

I cannot locate the following parts for a 65 SB. These numbers are right out of the AIM.

    1. Oil pressure line(steel line coated with copper)#3718812
    2. Tach cable #3866126

Did GM change or revise these part numbers? I have searched several suppliers and they do not recognize the numbers. The replacement oil pressure lines are not steel and the replacement Tach cables have an incorrect crimp behind the nut that attaches to the distrbutor.

Any info or recommended sources would be appreciated.

    Dwight,

One of the parts that you seek, 3866126 tach cable, was available from GM until it was discontinued and replaced by part number 6476986 in March of 1970. I don't know if the 986 is identical to the original 126 but I suspect not.

The other item, part number 3718812 was most likely an assembly line only part number and not available in service. I haven't looked deep into the old history books but parts such as this were seldom sold in service in exact lengths for the application. Typically, if the material was ever available, it would have come in a bulk roll. I don't think the original copper plated steel line was ever available even in bulk but it's possible. I'l look this evening.

try junkyards for the copper coated steel oil pressure line. chevy trucks of the mid 60's with 250ci 6 bangers will provide the line that's long enough to use in your corvette.mike

        Copper coated steel tubing

When I used to work on whole cars, I bought reproduction oil line kits from Paragon. They were made copper coated steel then. Are you certain they don't sell them that way now?

Good point Mike. In fact, the numerical value of that part number tells us that this part entered production some time around 1955 so it's likely that same line is used on some other vehicles. If indeed it's an assy line part for some other vehicle, it will likely be the same length as that used for Corvette.

Is this the same part number 3718812 used on C1 Corvettes?

                  Re: Copper coated at Paragon

Purchased one in Jan from Paragon, it was #1132K at $8.
Do not forget to purchase any other needed fitings at the same time such as the #34. (Guess who didn't)

                        Re: Paragon Diameter ??

                        Dwight,
Do a board search and see if anyone has comments on the diameter of the steel/copper oil tubing. Seems to me that I was told it is a little larger than original. If so then try Paul Mazut in MA, 413-243-3439 or msolidaxle@aol.com. He has these for C2 that are correct. He only has a limited number of parts, however they are all correct. Price for kit is $30.
