At one time OEM Glass Co. had a windshield installation kit available, but it's now history. Do I need a special kit for a '69 convertible, and where can I source one. Thanks Much.

An auto body/paint supply store should have what you need; GM never used butyl for windshields (wouldn't pass the MVSS 208 windshield retention requirement) - they used Thiokol pumpable adhesive (after appropriate silane priming of both the body and the glass), which later changed to pumpable urethane adhesive. I think 3M has kits for this (WindoWeld?).- Top

Re: '69 Windshield Install... Damming Strip
Friends,
Has anyone been able to come up with a proper damming strip to run around the perimeter of the windshield inside the Thiokol (or now urethane adhesive) to help control its spread?. This strip is what you see as you look through the windshield from the exterior.
Thanks

Re: '69 Windshield Install
Can't remember if this part number was superseded or not but I was able to get a kit from Chevrolet about 3 years ago. Think it had 2 spacers, primer and urethane adhesive in the kit. Ask your Chevrolet dealer for #9631000. The spacer part number was #4871330 (11/32 X 7/16 X 1)- Top

Re: '69 Windshield Install
Thanks everyone,
Just curious. What is the purpose and placement of the spacers?

Re: '69 Windshield Install
The spacers are used to keep the weight of the glass from "squashing out" the adhesive/sealant...they insure enough material is left to rovide strength between the two bond films. The placement of the spacers will be shown in the AIM...unfortunately I'm away from my AIM. There should also be some metal support clips screwed to the cowl to keep the windshield from slipping down before the adhesive sets up...yours should still be there.- Top

Re: '69 Windshield Install
Chuck,
Makes sense about the "squish". I'll be making an attempt to get the GM kit and spacers. I do, fortunately, still have the clip that holds the bottom of the windshield.
Thanks to all for the advice. I think I'm now good to go.
Happy Holidays,
