    Re: Re po wires

repos junk to begin with. the carbon core in repo wires are weaker than a 6 banger ford. get a set of steel core plug wires to drive the ole girl about . re-install the carbon-cored wires for judging.i prefer making up a set of steel core wires using packard 440 wire and the boots and terminals off the repos. solder the terminals to the packard's steel core. they'll last forever if they don't touch the exhaust manifold. and the car, no matter what engine, will almost certainly run considerably better. mike

        Mike,
Have you ever tried remaking the wires with the braid (like 69 BB)with the steel core wire? Can you feed it through the braid. I have a set of repros with a few thousand miles where the connections are already shot.
        Thanks,
        John

Where do you get Packard 440 wire, and what quantity would be needed for V8? Thanks, Ken

Ken, approximately 30' of wire is needed. It is possible to reuse the old shielding. I just finished one set and am working on another set.

Here is a good article on this problem from a motorcycle perspective. Very informative and applicable.
