Long Island Corvette part 25-11C: Plug

    Dave,

I assume you purchased the LIC part # 25-11C which sells for $6.50 and is listed for '66 only. Does anyone know if the LIC repro plug looks the same (headmark or no headmark, any non-threaded portion, etc.) as the original GM plug?

Re: Inquiring Minds Want to Know-C2 Rad Drain Asm

I think that they're wrong about the 65 having the plug. From what I've found, the use of the plug was limited to 1966 and early 1967.

Re: C1/C2 Rad Drain Cock Coupling & Pipe Asm

Bob - Here some more interesting additional information on p/n 3150906 as listed on GR 8.951 and titled DRAIN COCK COUPLING & PIPE ASM. It's a formatible piece of plumbing. The Standard Parts Catalog has a drawing of the assembly along with the following descriptive information:

          Thread Size: 1/4 PT
          Length Closed: 4 1/16
          Part No.: 3150906
          Material: Aluminum
          Group Prime/Use: None designated
          Unit Pkg.: 1

Once the "bean counters" saw the price of this assembly, it's no wonder they went to a plug and after all draining your radaitor wasn't their problem. Kind of like the orange plastic plug in the clutch cross shaft hole instead of the Zerk fitting. A penny here and there adds up to some real money.

            John-----

That is excellent information. If the part was drawn in September, 1965, then that pretty much means that the part, itself, could not have "seen the light of day" prior to about December, 1965. So, that probably means that, as I suspected, early 1966 models didn't use the plug but continued to use the petcock, as earlier.

Pete ,yes when talking about thousands a penny does make a difference. Like Michael, I also have some new GM alum petcocks and I always wondered why GM included the aluminum pipe nipple and aluminum hexagon union.
I bet most midyear guys buying the GM petcock pitched the extra parts in the trash since all they needed out of the box was the petcock.
Nice detective work Pete. I always thought every aluminum rad. came with a petcock,Bob

                Re:Bubba and petcocks

Great discussion. Seem to remember removing a plug from my July 1965 small block and installing a petcock in 1968. This was probably the first flush of the radiator. This make me look in the attic at four old original radiators that had been stored for years and years. Didn't find any aluminum plugs but did find a Circle "A" oil drain plug and white plastic seal in one of the radiators. Bubba was at hard at work 40 years ago.

                  Joe -

It's also possible that the plug was an "NDDTF" (no drawing, drawing to follow) item; that occurred when a part was released and purchased on the outside for immediate use, and a GM drawing was created and released for it later when the drafting room had time. The ECR releasing the part and the release notice would show "NDDTF" for the drawing reference.
