    93 won't start

Sorry guys, but I need some help with a "modern" Corvette. Took a 93 40th anniversary model on trade recently for one of my 67s (yeah I got some cash to boot). Car sat in my garage for about 3 weeks, so I put a trickle charger on the battery overnight. Started it and backed it outside yesterday to let it warm up for a while. After it sat for several hours, I went to start it and it would do absolutely nothing, so I put the trickle charger back on. It immediately jumped to 5 amps (I've never seen it go this high, even on a completely dead battery). I left it on overnight again, and this morning it was still charging at 5 amps. All the lights come on, headlights pop up nicely, but it won't even grunt. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

broken battery (some plates shorting out) or another battery consuming power drain in the circuit... I would start with disconnecting the battery from the circuit and attaching the charger first only on the battery and then only on the circuit and rule out what is draining it...

C4s drain batteries and kill them with regularity. You'll find that you need to keep it on a Battery Minder constantly if you wish to avoid a yearly battery change. If you're in a colder climate (like me) and store it, disconnect the battery for the winter.

        My 89 does the same

Ditto to patrick's comments. I have a similar problem with my 89. If I park it for more then a 2 week span it completely kills the battery. I have resorted to a side post disco and a 9 volt battery in the lighter socket trick. Eric

Earlier C4s had poor alternators; I don't know if they had solved the problem by 93, but my 87 ate an alternator about every 2-3 years. Too much electrical load; too little alternator, and poor design. I would check the output of the alternator before I spent money on anything else.

            Chuck,

They fixed it by then. Different alternator altogether.
