I bought a 54 years ago and am finally getting around to working on it. As in all old cars it has "issues".It has a 350 turbo trans that I'd like to change back to a CI powerglide. I have a 54 powerglide that looks like it was on an enclosed driveshaft car. What does it take to convert it? I have a correct 54 driveshaft. Also the data plate is missing from inside the driver door. The title that came with it is not a corvette title. We checked the frame and could'nt find the serial number. Any suggestions on where else to look?Am also looking for all three e-brake cables. This is not a show car but a really nice driver, and am trying to get it back to original. Thanks for any help you can give, Rod T.

Re: 1954 Corvette
The frame stamp should be somewhere between the drivers side kick up to mid drvers door area. If there is no sign of a stamp then you either have not found it or the frame has been doctored. Once saw a 60 that the frame number was obliterated with a center punch hundreds of times. It had a AZ MVD number, but there was no way of ever telling what it's factory number was. Does your 54 still have the original 6? Not to scare you but if you do find the number it may be stolen or belong to another car. I know of a particular 53 that exists in two places at the same time One frame titled and one body titled in different states (not 003). Eric #3,182

Re: 1954 Corvette
PG -6 banger closed drive shaft was used up to 54, you need to change the tail housing and out put shaft big $$$$, go to 55,56,57 -6 banger open drive shaft PG and have your drive shaft modified to fit , lot cheaper!!
If you cant find the frame number it may be a dealer parts department over the counter frame which will not (have or show) a #number!- Top

Re: 1954 Corvette
The numbers on my 1954 frame are on top of the left side outside frame rail on under the drivers seat even with the X member where the X comes together under the center of the car. The numbers can only be seen by removing a body pad, using a small mechanics little spot mittor on a stick like Snap On makes and then shining the flash light while laying on your back peaking into the mirror. I had to slide the mirror between the underneith side of the fiberglass body and the frame itself then fish for the numbers. After cleaning the to side of the rail with my wifes skinny little fingers we finally found it. We let out a sigh of relief because the numbers matched the vin plate and title.
Good luck.- Top
