Re: 107 Coil Rebuild

It depends what you mean by a "rebuild". If a coil were to be "rebuilt" (assuming that it was a disfunctional unit to begin with), all that would remain of the original coil would be the "can" and the insulator cap. I don't think that it's possible to "un-crimp" and original can and, subsequently, re-crimp it in a way that would be acceptable. So, that would leave you with just the insulator cap being re-used and the remainder of the coil being a reproduction/replacemement.
If you need a new coil, your best bet might be:
1) look for a good used '107' coil;
2) purchase a reproduction coil if one is available for this number (I don't know if it is);
3) purchase one of Paul Baker's (Goat Hill) "re-manufactured" units (these are units in which all of the coil parts are replaced except for the insulator cap which is an original). If you go this route, I would recommend that you only do so on a "cash-and-carry" basis at one of the events that Paul attends. Among other shows, he's usually at Pomona, CA for all the yearly shows, plus Bloomington, Carlisle, etc.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
