    1955 Dist early and late

To tell the difference from early first design 1955 Distributor model #1110855 that will always have a 54 date code is easy to spot (right one in pic.) you can see that the hold down plate SLIPS in to it, where the second design same #1110855 Dist does not need to be SLIPED in. It's dates will be the 55 year. Both Dist. Use the same vacuum advance #1116085. Most know that the 55 used two design Carbs early and late, few know that the Dist is also. This early Dist. Is getting vary hard to locate so if your the "early" 55 engine that has 54 date codes, you need this to be original.
I don't know weather the JM mentions this.

Re: 1955 Dist early and late

I recall seeing only ONE of them out of an engine in my entire life, and it has been almost a lifetime since I've seen it!

    Thanks for the reminder.

        No judging guide here but

I'd think that'd be a major feature of an early '55 engine. Certainly as important as any other major component of the engine.

Your right , but so few 55's are around or seen that NCRS has little concern to up grade the JM for the 55 , there was many changes from #01 to #700. 55 is the odd ball year for Corvette that's why it interest me with my 55! Oh well!

Thanks Roy guess its the orig dist for the motor

I bought the motor twenty five years ago its still complete with the ugly ox-blood paint, story was he took it out of a wrecked 56 Nomad wagon in 1958 with 16,000 miles on it, and put it in a 32 ford coupe put 2,000 miles on it and now its being changed out for a 350 and a air cond unit, no bolt holes in the heads on the 265 for the a/c stuff. 56 engine was red and even an AC car dint have holes in the heads , the AC was bolted to the R/S ex-manifold , What are you going to do with it??

I have a 56 Belair that I bought in 1968 my first car. I bought a 1964 425 409 SS impala to drive to high school a couple of weeks later. The 56 I thru out the motor, trans and rear. The bench seat was exchanged for a set of 66 GTO buckets, put a worked 327 with tunnel ram a ford top loader 4 speed and 9 inch rear and took it to the track this was all done by 1970. I kept it all these years.I bought that 265 from the street rod for it but havent had the time or the inclination, one of these days. The 56 had a power pack with a glide its copper and beige 2 door sedan. Phil 8063

(The 56 had a power pack) , the way to tell a 55 or 56 power pack option is to look how the gas and brake lines run out side the frame, where a two a barrel Carb runs inside the frame.

You know your stuff, guess they move the fuel lines out side because of the dual exhaust that comes on the power pack cars. The 55 Nomads are the only ones with single exhaust with power pack and the fuel line is on the inside of the frame.AS I remember Thanks Roy Phil 8063

I just don't only like C1 Corvettes but Chevy 55 to 57 also had many in the past. Man talk about accessories I had a 56 Convertible and you name it , it had it ,even the rain sencer that made the top go up with out any one in it. My 55 Nomad the same having accessories, that's why I love them even in my 55 Corvette.
Chevy guys and I talk all day about accessories - Corvette guys ???????? will you know!!
