    '66 L79 warm engine starting....

I replaced the original carb with a new, #3367 dated, replacement. After driving and letting the car sit for about 20 minutes, the motor turns over about 8-10 times before starting. It runs fine in all other respects, acceleration, cold starting, with proper choke operation, etc. While it's not really a problem, I'd like it to start sooner. All ignition items have been checked... plugs, timing, points, cap, etc. It used to start somewhat sooner with the original #3367, which I removed due to a "whistling" noise when warm(some warpage which I'll fix some time in the future) I installed the replacement carb without making any adjustments, other than the float settings, idle speed and mixture. Assuming this delay in starting is related to the new carb, and not normal, what might I try to improve it?

Could be a leaky needle/seat or float level too high that allows fuel to drip into the bores after shutdown, causing a mild floated condition.

After a hot shutdown, remove the air cleaner cover and watch for fuel dripping out of the main venturi nozzles. There should be none.

          Ron,

Ebay.....it was about $275. It's identical to the original, except for the dating, the way the throttle shaft is secured to the lever for the accelerator rod, and the idle air vent being metal instead of rubber. Some of the ones I've seen on Ebay are much more expensive, and are less like the originals, such as having the wrong screws for the fuel bowls, etc.

            Also.....

....some of the replacement carbs differ in that the primary bowl is such that it won't allow the use of the original shape fuel line.
