    C3 Frame Painting- Eastwood Paints

I am getting close to being ready to paint the frame and components on my 71 and was wondering if anyone has used Eastwoods new Extreme Chassis Black. How does the gloss level look as far as judging goes. I was thinking of using an expoxy primer first and then spraying the black on it. Anyone know if there are any compatibility problems with using expoxy? Also how does there underhood black look for firewall, inner fenders and underside of hood? And one last question, engine brackest that are to be painted semi gloss black, which brand of paint is recomended for this. Are they as shiny as contol arms, same as frame gloss or something different?
    Thanks Sheldon

    Sheldon,

I have not used Eastwood's new paint, but their original version of Chassis Black is/was quite nice.
I REALLY like their Underhood Black for the areas you describe above. I think it's one of the best, if not the best, out there.

Generally control arms are quite glossy, and brackets are plain semi-gloss. If you want to buy the most accurate then get the repro'ed 1040105 GM paint in a gallon, and dip them in there (or spray them) for the exact color. Else just use regular any-brand semi-gloss.

      Sheldon,

Make sure you read the warning on their paints regarding when to and not to recoat to avoid pulling up the previous coat. They will, in fact, peel off the previous coat per that warning.

        Sheldon

I just finished my C3 frame not too long ago, I used the eastwood rust encapsulator and then the regular chassis black and I liked the results.

Did you use a brush, spray bomb, or a spray gun?

I am very impressed w/ Eastwoods paints.

When my engine was out, I steam cleaned & wire wheeled the frame & hit it with a coat of Eastwood's Rust Encapsuator (no rust/just to be safe).

Next came a couple of coats of the Extreme Chassis Black Satin, & I used the Semi-Gloss Underhood Black on the firewall. Both came out great.

I used spray cans for all 3 paints, none was too shiny. I can't comment on the judging aspect, but the quality was very good.

                Patrick

I used the aerosol spray cans (rattle can). I only had to do from the firewall forward so I used about 2 1/2 cans for the encapsulator and 2 for the chassis black.

I was really impressed with the way the encapsulator sprayed on compared to other paints Ive sprayed.
