    Bull

    Moose that it is!!

When I bought the George Moore/Eb Rose 54 ( 15,000 mile 54 w/57 Sebring drivetrain ) Along with the car..came a 16 foot wooden runabout, the 1st 20 years of Corvette news and this giant Mooses head.

Eb Rose who drove Corvettes for Ed Cole in 56/57 as a contract driver was also an avid Sportsman going on hunting and fishing trips with his wife and with george and his wife.

During one trip..Eb's wife killed this big Moose.

When my daughter and I made the long second trip to Houston from Arkansas..to pick up the boat.. the Mooses head was mounted in Georges garage. Georges wife said..do you want the Mooses head? If so let me call Jean Rose as it belongs to her. One phone call later..my daughter and I were taking the Mooses head off the garage wall.

It was too big to fit on or in the Suburban so we placed it in the back pod of the runabout boat.

It made quite a scene hauling that boat back to Arkansas 12 hours..with that giant Mooses head sticking out of the boat.

Great memories come from our Corvette purchases.

They say money is stored in the back of a mooses head. I haven't checked yet!

When I made a third trip back to Houston and visited with Eb Rose..he had the largest stuffed fish I have ever seen. It must have been 1200 pounds and 16 feet long mounted in his garage. He snagged it off the coast of Galveston fishing with his friends the Edelbrocks ( sound familiar ).

By the way Eb's wife..Jean Rose was a Texas Beauty Queen. Eb, his wife to be Jean and AJ Foyt grew up on adjoining ranches and were life long friends.

    Happy Holidays!!

Great story, Joe! By the way, in the photo, is that a sleeping cat on the box or just another varmint waiting to be mounted on the wall?

I have about a dozen cats and they sometimes sleep up on top of Ned the Moose.

FYI..that Mooses head is worth about $20 grand. So if you get an opportunity to get one..keep that in mind.

20 grand???!!! I'm not so sure that if it was mine, even with such a great story behind it, that it would be down at the local pawn shop within the hour! But seriously, if its that valuable, why keep it outside exposed like that, even if does have the porch roof over it? Why not put it inside that cabin (or does the wife not like that idea? ) I would think that eventually it would deteriorate outside like that.

I am always hopeful that Roy will some day hit his limit of Bull. I think however there is a GM accessory number for the Mooses head Corvette hood ornament. I'm sure if I post it on Ebay..it will find its way to ROY's accessory collection of the weird and useless.

                        Patrick

About 25 years ago I was treasure hunting in the jungles of New Guinea.

If you wanted to purchase an artifact in the jungle..the natives had what they called a #1 or #2 price.

The #2 price was lower..but if you paid the higher #1 price you got the story behind the artifacts importance.

To me the Mooses head story is priceless.

                        Regards,

                        Joe

                          Hey Joe, I'm curious.....

"They say money is stored in the back of a mooses head. I haven't checked yet"

This is one I've never heard of before. Can someone explain the best way to get to the back of a moose's head? Front door or back door? I know someone that will do anything for a buck. I really want to know.

                              Joe,

I don't doubt that at all. The story "makes" the head.
I was just referring to the fact that you could buy a similar head for far less, so I was not sure how you arrived at your value.

For an artifact such as that, you've got a very small group of buyers. Most car guys have wives that will allow car parts, but there ain't no way Mr. Moosehead is making it into the house.
